Table 19

For some reason there was a directorial choice made to ensure characters are always falling over or walking into things

Table 19 takes place at a wedding where Eloise (Anna Kendrick) was due to be maid of honor. After being dumped by the best man and bride’s brother (Wyatt Russell) two months prior, Eloise has dropped from table 1, to table 19. Eloise is defiant in attending but ends up sitting with a bunch of misfits making the wedding very different to what she expected.

It isn’t funny. For some reason there was a directorial choice made to ensure characters are always falling over or walking into things, and it just isn’t funny. Table 19 also tries to garner jokes from being a script based character comedy but it’s dialogue is flimsy and the character development is atrocious. Anna Kendrick spends a good portion just crying and having a generalised tantrum.

aussie-crasher

The cast is alright, but Wyatt Russell brings the least empathetic role of perhaps all time to the party and he comes across as intolerable throughout. It’s just a shame that wasn’t what was intended.

Table 19 is just a generic unfunny comedy that has been done before multiple times. Weak in almost all areas and it struggles to put across any of the morals it relies on. It is however quite charming in the strangest of ways.
