Endless toilet and bum humour does get a little tiring
Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul tracks the Heffley family as they embark on a four day road trip to their Gran’s birthday party. When Greg Heffley hears that his favourite YouTuber is going to be at a games convention en route, he has different plans for the family’s destination.
Sporting an all new cast from the first three installments, The Long Haul is everything that anyone ever expected. It plays out as a fairly average family comedy and there is some jokes of worth scattered about. However, endless toilet and bum humour does get a little tiring.
It seems to play on some form of loop with each scene setting itself up for a gag, followed by the joke, and then repeating itself. It’s weak story telling and a film about a big ol’ American road trip needs more plot than this one does.
Alicia Silverstone is mature in her role as Greg’s mother, and Greg himself, played by Jason Drucker isn’t half as annoying as he first seemed. It is one for the family, but don’t expect everyone to enjoy it. Because they won’t.
